IT Support - History

I have always been interested in gadgets, electronics, etc., so when the computers started to become available it was exciting times for anyone interested in gadgets.  having seen a nice glossy advertisement in one of the Sunday Magazines for the Sinclair ZX81 I soon purchased it.  Then thought what do I do with it.  After playing around with it and buying programs and reading the new computer magazines, I soon started looking at the code and doing "what if" programming changing variable here and there to see the effect.

Arriving in IT Support on my first morning I was shown to my desk and told to install the operating system and install various programs (Word, Lotus, DB2, IRMA, and few others).

I was also asked to look at a DB2 database and fix any issues.  And these were many, much of the code functions were interleaved making it hard work to read and understand what was going on, though fixed the issues and got it working.

Within a few weeks of starting there, I was happily fixing PC issues across the bank, installing new PC and connecting users to the mainframe computer as well as maintaining the personnel and Inspections departments data and computers.

Training users how to use various software applications e,g, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and KopyKing (used to download data from the mainframe).

During my time at Credit Lyonnais, I was also as asked to write software too. See  Software Development.
